Find out if your condition can be treated at your local pharmacy — without a GP appointment. This screening tool is free to use. The pharmacy service has its own fees, which vary by pharmacy.
The HSE Common Conditions Service (CCS) is a service delivered by trained pharmacists working in community pharmacy and follows national clinical guidelines. It enables pharmacists to assess and treat eight common conditions independently — with or without a GP referral.
This helps patients get faster care and helps GPs by freeing their time for more complex patients. If you're not eligible through this tool, you'll receive a screening summary to help with your next steps.
A consultation fee will apply for all patients availing of the service. Each pharmacy sets their own fees. Medicines may be covered under HSE Community Drug Schemes depending on your eligibility.
Walk into any participating pharmacy, or book an appointment — availability varies by location.
Assessment and treatment on your first visit — hours, not weeks away.

This service does not replace GP care. It is designed to support patients with common conditions and free up GP appointments for more complex health needs. You can always still see your GP.
A consultation fee will apply for all patients. The HSE does not cover the consultation fee for any member of the public. Each pharmacy sets its own fees — check with them directly. If you are a medical card holder or on the Drugs Payment Scheme, medicines may be covered under your scheme.
The service is delivered by trained pharmacists working in community pharmacies. Pharmacists must complete HSE-approved CCS training through the Irish Institute of Pharmacy (IIOP) before they can deliver the service.
If you are not eligible, this tool will generate a screening summary of your results to bring to your GP. Your pharmacist will also be able to provide advice and refer you where appropriate.
If your symptoms worsen or do not improve, follow the advice given by your pharmacist, contact your GP, or seek urgent help if needed. In a medical emergency, always call 999.

I'm a registered pharmacist with experience across both hospital and community pharmacy. Over the years, I've sat with so many patients who've waited weeks for a GP appointment — often for conditions that a pharmacist can safely and quickly help with the very same day.
That's exactly why the HSE Common Conditions Service means so much to me. I built this tool to make things a bit easier — a friendly first step to check whether your condition might be covered, before you pop into the pharmacy.
You can also find me on Instagram at @the_honestdose, where I share honest, plain-English information about the most commonly prescribed medicines.
